Cammino Powerline Harmonizer H3.1.
At last year’s X-Fi audio show in Holland we met Andrea Vitali in the Blumenhofer room. After pointing out the merits of the latest product of the German speaker manufacturer he works for, he also introduced us to Claudio Trevisanello who was present in the same room. Claudio started his company Cammino —path or track in Italian—after following the long road towards realistic music reproduction in the home. Like many others he disliked false hopes marketed at disproportional prices to what things cost to make. With a specialist technical background in electrics and electronics, Claudio is strongly convinced that the mains supply and power cords are the weakest elements in any hifi chain.

However electrical properties may be measured, there are no available means yet to test and measure the amount of pleasure a human brain derives from a hifi system. It's all tied up with a steady uncorrupted electrical signal from the wall which is modulated by another albeit this time varying electrical signal with the outcome being music. And that music should pleasure the brain. Not an easy task! According to Claudio, Cammino improves upon how AC is modulated into real music by tuning the plugged-in power cables’ electromagnetic field similar to how a musician would tune the strings of a musical instrument. Besides this harmonizing action, his box also is a very effective noise filter which cleanses the mains power of distortion so that the precious audio data transform into the best possible sound.

After the show Claudio and Andrea delivered this Powerline Harmonizer H3.1 in person. Its 290 x 145 x 215mm enclosure finished in high-gloss black sports an aluminum face plate with the Cammino logo whose dot on the ‘i’ is a blue LED. Knocking on the enclosure felt the same as tapping rock. Dead. On the back of our European loaner version—other country-specific versions are available—were three ‘analog’-marked high-quality Schuko power outlets and one marked ‘digital’ using a Furutech Rhodium socket.

This configuration explains the H3.1 denomination with three analog and one digital outlet. Each of the two left analog outputs is accompanied by a dedicated ground-lift switch. Next to the digital output is a control button to check correct phase of the incoming power signal. Based on correct incoming phase the four outlets all have a red dot indicating the pin which should provide the live signal. A power switch, silver-plated fuse holder and Rhodium IEC power inlet complete the back. In addition to tuning the cabinet against mechanical resonances, Cammino uses three custom-made Magic Dream decoupling feet based on the ball-in-a-race principle to deflect vibrations entering via the connected power cables away from the Harmonizer.
